Chatbot or Agent?
A chatbot can answer questions, provide guidance, and generate content within a conversational interface. An AI agent adds tools, planning, state, and workflow execution so it can perform defined tasks.
Choose a Chatbot When
- The main requirement is information or conversation.
- Actions are limited and predictable.
- Users should remain responsible for execution.
Choose an Agent When
- The task requires multiple steps.
- The system needs to call several tools.
- Workflow state must be maintained.
- Automation can deliver measurable value.
Many production systems use a hybrid approach: a conversational interface backed by carefully controlled tools and workflow services.
